Plant Rescue at Harriman State Park
October 26 @ 10:00 am - October 31 @ 12:00 pm
We’ve been invited by NY State Parks to rescue plants from a sunny, sandy area before a major construction/renovation project. The project is expected to completely wipe out any plants that are currently there. We have been given permission to take as many out as we can. Construction may start this fall but will definitely start by late spring next year.
Some of the species we may be able to rescue include: Little bluestem grass, Red cedar, Woolgrass, Pearly everlasting (smaller numbers), Sweet fern, Stiff aster, Black huckleberry, Calico aster, Yarrow, Switchgrass, Whorled loosestrife (few).
During registration you will be asked to specify which days you are interested in attending Saturday October 26 through Thursday October 31. The rescue will be run on days when the weather is predicted to be good during that period. We will be on site 10:00 – noon. You will be contacted in advance to confirm.
Exact meeting place will be given in the registration confirmation email.
